Steve, I completely agree with your assessment of a blog’s effectiveness as a marketing tool, and I also agree that $1K or $2K on training is a reasonable investment for acquiring this skill. Thanks for your advice, and I appreciate your response to my inquiry.

Oh, and you can only imagine the frustration I experienced when I couldn’t properly load the WordPress software. I mean, here I am following the instructions from the “Dummies” book word-for-word, and I still wound up unsuccessful. It does not bode well for one’s confidence when a book for “Dummies” proves to be too much, haha………

You might want to find (after tax season) a WordPress guru in your area (there are sure to be some) who can help you get your blog set up. And help you get trained.

BTW, even if you spend (for example) $1K or $2K on this (and it might not be anywhere near that), you’ll find a blog a WAY more powerful marketing and client service tool than almost anything else you can do.

Hope that helps. (BTW, I know the WordPress for Dummies book… and while that’s a fine book, it doesn’t surprise that it didn’t help you get all the way from point A to point B.)

My new website/blog is currently being completed using WordPress, and I desperately want to learn the basics so that I can post content that I create regularly. However, I am struggling with becoming an effective user of WordPress, and I wanted to inquire if you have any recommendations for learning to use this software. I have purchased “WordPress for Dummies”, and I had trouble simply loading the software, running the FTP client, and connecting to MySQL database (within godaddy.com). Honestly, this process took me so long and frustrated me so much (and ended unsuccessfully to boot), that I haven’t had the courage to give it another try. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/recommendations/pointers you are willing to share for the best way to learn basic usage of WordPress. Thanks in advance.

A lot of accounting software is now cloud-based and geography is going to be less of a factor in serving clients going forward.

Secondly, while I agree that “content matters most,” I don’t think CPA’s should underestimate the design of their website. I’ve read of studies where internet users looked at 2 websites that had identical content, but one was clearly designed well and users tended to trust the content on that website to a greater extent.
